I thought I would share this article with you from my Academy of General Dentistry Journal-

“Sugary drinks may not only harm tooth enamel, but were also associated with more than a 20% increased risk of heart attack, according to a study published in the March 12, 2012 issue of Circulation, Researchers at Harvard University found that men who consume one 12-ounce, sugar-sweetened drink every day, have a 20% increase in heart attack than those who do not drink these sugar-laden treats. Further, this increases to 42 & 69% with 2 and 3 sugary drinks per day, respectively…”

Kid’s First Dental Check-Up!

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that children have their first dental check-up by their 1st birthday. There has been a trend in cavity increase with children from ages 2-5. Begin wiping the gums with a warm washcloth at birth. By the time the first tooth arrives, use a toothbrush to clean their teeth. This will greatly help decrease dental decay. A healthy smile is a great start to a healthy child!

Xylitol Gum help prevent dental cavities

A tidbit for those of you who want to prevent dental cavities. Try chewing gum with Xylitol. Studies have shown that it can dramatically decrease decay. It can be found in health food stores or even Whole Foods.

Back to work- after Month 2 Baby Alyssa

Well, Baby Alyssa is now 2 months old. I have started back to work this past week. I just wanted to let my patients know I will be practicing 3 days now (instead of 4), to be with the baby. The days I am practicing are Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. On Wednesdays, Dr. Monique McQuade will be seeing patients. She also graduated from Columbia University and completed a general practice residency at Harvard University. She has been in private practice for over 5 years. Please welcome her with open arms!

How fast time flies! Looking forward to seeing all of you!
